5 Things Friday
What I've been up to this week; everything from logo T-shirts and a new purchase to spring greens and dreaming of summer breaks.
Hello and welcome to a new month! I’m really hoping May brings with it some sunshine and brighter days. I’m happy to wave goodbye to April if I’m honest. There’s no doubt the weather in the UK hasn’t helped with my general fug feeling, but I’ve also been lacking in confidence and general ‘joie de vivre’ recently. To be fair, I’ve had a lot on. Many of you are aware my mum passed away in March, and I’m also battling the menopause symptoms. All in all, I have been having some major imposter feelings about being on here and on the socials in general. When I first got here, it felt like a quiet gentle little place. Since then I’ve noticed that a lot of the big girls from Insta have joined and, no beef, but it’s made me feel a little uneasy. Thoughts of comparison always suck the joy, but I had a little word with myself. On here it’s just me, my laptop or, in the case of Insta, my phone. There’s no team, no photographer, editor or ghost writer - just me. So I’m pulling up my big girl pants and getting on with it, and hoping you’re enjoying being part of it as much as I’m enjoying sharing this space with you. Finding some joy to get me over this hump is on the agenda this month, so here’s what I’ve been up to this week.
1. I booked a long weekend away.
If I could spend the rest of my days travelling I’d be a happy bunny. I’m the sort of person who always needs something to look forward to and a weekend in the sun is much needed. We’ve picked Porto in Portugal as the destination. We’ve visited Lisbon twice and love it so I’m expecting a similar vibe, but I’m looking forward to trying somewhere new. I’ve heard good things and have done a little research, which tells me that Porto is still very affordable and has a lot to offer, despite being quite small. The perfect weekend away for me is a mix of good food, a spot of sightseeing, lots of sun, a little culture and then more food - and Porto has all of these in abundance. I shall be writing my review, so look out for that if you’re after some inspiration - I can already heartedly recommend Lisbon, Amsterdam and Prague, which we visited recently. You can read my Amsterdam review here.
2. I’ve added to my T-shirt collection
I love a tee, but usually go for plain styles with the odd stripe. If you missed it I gave my recommendations for my favourite styles of T-shirts here, but this week saw me wearing two logo tees and I very much enjoyed it. A logo tee-shirt can add a pop of colour without being too over powering. H&M has got the best ones on the high street, the quality is really good and a great price too. I wore this one with a black linen suit for a meal out with friends and one of them remarked she really loved the whole look, which is always nice.
I also tried the Sezane ones this week after seeing Alex Stedman in hers. It’s a relatively new brand for me. I’m working with them for a few months on a gifting basis, so I’m slowly working my way through their basics. It’s lovely to be able to try new brands, in general though I like to pick pieces that I’ll wear frequently and that fit my style, so this month, I went with a T-shirt and sweater look, both in a large. I remember someone once asking me if there was an age limit on wearing slogan tees! Well, I’ve created a little edit of my favourite ones above, so I guess I haven’t reached that limit! As always I subscribe to the ‘wear what you love’ tribe, so if you do want to wear your favourite band’s T-shirt, then do, but I like to go for a little more of a chic look with a Parisienne vibe.
