5 Things Friday - My M&S Summer Style Edit
What to wear now the sun is shining? M&S is covering all my bases, with holiday looks, dresses to die for, casual weekend outfits and stylish office wear!
Seems M&S can do no wrong at the moment, with probably their best season ever. They’ve nailed it with affordable pieces from their core collection; the once frumpy Per Una has had a huge injection of coolness; and their accessory range is looking all designer. They even managed to get queen of boho, Sienna Miller, onboard. Whereas once I would just be frequenting the knicker dept, nowadays I can’t pass through without making a MUST HAVE purchase. So now that summer is deciding to play ball, I’ve styled up 5 looks that cover every eventually this season.
1. Summer in the City - Workwear Look
It’s annoying, yes, but even though it’s sunny you still have to go to work. I get asked a lot for workwear looks and I usually shy away from them because I have very little experience of office life. That said, it seems things have gone a little more casual and the rules are less rigid than the last time I worked in a formal environment. I like to keep it neutral for workwear as it makes it so much easier to mix and match. I have this linen blend skirt myself (size 14). You can easily dress it up or down so, if you're doing something after work, just add a little heel and a slinky tee. It’s got a belt loop, which is unusual, but means you can give it a little more interest with a nice leather belt. The M&S Autograph tees have reached iconic status, you must have the Arket dupe one by now. For warmer weather this drapey one looks perfect. Pop a waistcoat over for extra style points. If the weather cools, then a knitted tee is a good buy, and then finish the look with a matching bag. M&S do some big totes, if you have to haul a laptop around with you, but a girl needs her essentials to hand so a crossbody bag will always be my choice. I’m not sure about office footwear rules, but for comfort it’s always going to be flats for me, and these pointy slip ons still look chic. Finish it all off with the latest designer-look gold earrings - M&S jewellery currently has some really good pieces.
2. Summer At The Beach
After all that work, we’re all going to need a holiday in the sun! My favourites are beach holidays. I’m heading to my favourite destination soon and I love this whole look for the beach. I always go for the easy option of a throw-on cotton beach dress, and this one has a lovely print. Easy to pop on when you want to walk to the beach club or go for lunch. Of course I’ve picked out the colour of the print to match with the swimming costume. If you’re looking for more support, I rate this tummy control one. A big beach bag and straw hat are essential items, plus, of course, some sunglasses. Finally, M&S has 25% off footwear now, so these studded slides are a bargain.
