5 Things Friday -5 Things I Can't Live Without

Well I probably could, but I wouldn't like to try!

This week has flown by, and I for one are more than happy it’s a long weekend! Does anyone else find that their sleep is affected by a full moon? I used to chuckle when people said this, but I'm finding that every time I have a few bad nights of sleep, it’s around the full moon. That, and the change in the weather, has left me postively lacking in enthusiasm. While I was having a moan to one of my girls over the weekend, we ended up making a list of all the little things that bring a bit joy to our day; things that we probably could live without, but would much rather not have to. I thought I’d share my top five…

1. A good cup of coffee in the morning

I don’t understand how some people don’t drink hot drinks. I organise my whole day around my tea and coffee requirements. I have a friend who doesn’t drink either, and I’m confused - what do you drink when you’re tired, cold, just got home, need cheering up, it's 4pm? I could go on! Seriously, though, if I had to only have one cuppa a day, it would be a good latte at 11am. I could probably live without the tea, and I drink decaffeinated, so it's not a caffeine addiction, but I really couldn’t be without the comfort and routine of my mid-morning coffee. Over lockdown, we bought a decent filter coffee machine and milk frother, which have done the job every day since. And to think I was brought up on Mellow Birds!

2. Makeup

I’m trying hard to come to terms with the whole ageing thing at the moment. Every day heralds a new discovery, further confirming that I am indeed getting older; from a saggy chin and menopausal spots to that extra spare tyre that is never going to budge! I thank the lord for makeup, which at least makes my tired, crumpled face a little more human. If I had to narrow it down, I don’t think I could live without blusher or mascara. I have no natural colour on my face. My cheeks and lips are the same colour as the rest of my face, and, although I tan fairly well, I need blusher to bring my face alive. I’ve alternated between Bobbi Brown (Shade Powder Pink) and Jones Road Miracle Balm, but my makeup guru (no1 daughter) recently recommended Refy (Shade Malaya) and I’ve been using it every day since. Mascara-wise, my go-to for my pathetic lashes is Nars Climax and, while I think about it, I would miss a lip balm! Summer Fridays are a favourite; a subtle tint combined with hydrating balm.
