5 Things Friday - The High Street Edit
Not just five but ten things that have caught my eye this week! The high street is looking good, so I just had to share.
Good morning you lovely lot. No paywall this week, so feel free to have a good read. It would be remiss of me not to mention the weather this week, but if the mini heatwave hasn’t put you in a summer mood, hopefully my summer high street edit will! I had every intention of making this an M&S edit, but virtually everything I liked was low stock or out of stock. I think they are still recovering from the recent cyber attack, so instead I’ve opened up to the whole high street. I’ve been scrolling like mad the last few weeks to discover all the new season has to offer, and there are some gems to be had! So, let’s get into it.
1.
AllSaints Sofi Relaxed Fit Leather Gilet
I saw this recently in-store and immediately fell in love. I have the black leather jacket version, which was so useful in spring and summer for throwing over my neutral summer uniform of linen trousers and top. This is sleeveless, a gorgeous muted light grey and, because it's suede, it is great to add some textural interest to any outfit. It’s a statement piece, but I think that investing in an unusual item like this for your wardrobe can elevate all your simple basics. I’d wear a 12 and style with white wide-leg linen trousers, a simple tee and a flat slide sandal for a minimal chic look.

Arket Dusty Pink Linen Shirt/H&M Linen Blend Oversized Shirt
Since I had my colours done last month I’ve been finding myself drawn to pink. It’s not a colour that I’ve ever really liked and, as a mum of four daughters, I never dressed them in pink, however it’s beginning to grow on me. I think it’s very much about finding the right shades. I saw Tee rocking the dusty pink Arket shirt recently, which looked gorgeous. For a more purse-friendly option, I ordered the H&M one in a large so I can wear it as a beach shirt over a bikini as well as with trousers.
3.
Blue and Green Stripe Oliver Bonas Dress
I know lots of you prefer a sleeve on your summer dresses, so this one jumped out at me. It’s a favourite shape of mine for easy dressing, and I love the colours - perfect for dressing up or down with bright accessories like these Sezane earrings.
4.
Hush Cotton Broderie Shirt/Shorts
I love a co-ord and nothing says summer like broderie anglaise. This would be perfect for beach days, worn over a swimsuit with strappy flats and a basket bag. On cooler days, you could wear the shirt with a little vest top underneath and your favourite jeans.
5.
I love a simple crossbody bag for days out, especially on holiday. Perfect for carrying your phone and lippy, this Arket leather bag is very on trend - you might have spotted that woven accessories are ‘in’ at the moment. It would also add a colour pop to your outfit.
6.
Massimo Dutti Long sleeveless oversized blouse and Skirt
This whole look please Massimo Dutti! The blouse has a gorgeous timeless drape and, as worn here paired with the skirt, it would be fabulous for an evening out. Alternatively, pair it with black linen trousers or jeans and it would be gorgeous for a casual look. Love all the accessories too.
7.
I’m a little obsessed with fish pendants at the moment, but bear with me as this one looks way more expensive than the price tag and would be cute for summer holiday outfits with the added blue beads.
8.
The website says waistcoat but I’d call it a blouse. Either way it is simple, elegant and a gorgeous shade of brown that would look stunning with a tan! It also comes in beige, but you know which one I’d go for.
9.
The perfect summer top, which looks very similar to the Posse designer ones from last year. It's ideal for dressing up your summer skirts or trousers - add some red woven flats and a little red lip for maximum effect.
10.
The perfect little pouch for adding some colour to your neutral outfits. This would be great for suncreams or makeup and could be slipped inside your summer basket for easy access when you're poolside. It’s a great price too.
Well, that’s it for this week. Hopefully, you are feeling summer ready now! I’m finally leaving for my holidays this weekend (I feel like I’ve been building up to this for ages!). There’s a post coming next Friday - something a little different that’s just for paid subscribers (this week was open to everyone) - then I’ll be having a week off to refresh and read all those books! I’ll be popping in on the paid subscriber chat though, so keep an eye out.
Have a super weekend
Melissa xx
Quite fancy a pink to shirt to mix in with my holiday neutrals, have a great time away and a well deserved rest x
Have a great holiday Melissa. I’m sure we are all looking forward to hearing about it in future posts.
