As I’m currently away on holiday (hurrah for some sun!) I thought I’d start with a little packing edit, so lets go!
Dresses, Dresses, Dresses!
I’m currently in Turkey and it’s hot, really hot! For this type of holiday, I always pack just dresses. Why? Well, a dress is the perfect holiday piece. I want to wear something that’s cool, loose (especially by day 3 of eating out), preferably natural fabrics and isn’t difficult. I love to dress up for an evening but I don’t want any of the fuss of building an outfit that you get with skirts or trousers. I want to just chuck it on and add accessories; the simpler the better (sandals, clutch, jewellery) and I’m ready.
A dress also has the advantage of being so easy to wear day to night… essential if you’re keeping to the luggage allowance.
A good example ⬆️ A simple black dress is so easy to wear for a day’s sightseeing or to dress up for an evening with a few accessories. My Boden Dress was a great buy as I’ve worn it at home too (always a good idea, cost per wear and all that). Ideas here.
This year, my Holiday Edit was earlier on in the year, so for this trip, I’ve added just two beach dresses (I’m saving my pennies for A/W), mostly because we live on the beach in Turkey. It’s always worth considering how much wear you’re going to get from holiday dresses and definitely most of my beach dresses are high street versions. My favourite one is year’s old from H&M. I felt it needed replacing this year so added this one from Rae Feather - definitely worth checking out if you want something special and at this time of year you can pick up a sale bargain. My high street pick was this from New Look or the alternative here, as it’s in the sale so likely to be OOS.
Never leave home without your scarf…
Every time I have (by accident), I have so regretted it. I’m not talking about a woolly one; no this is a large light scarf. Mine is an ancient one from Zara and I take it on every holiday. I made a reel many moons ago with it, which included some great packing tips I still do here.
- Ever been on a flight, the air condition kicks in and suddenly it’s -10, or they decide to put all the cabin lights on even though it’s 1am and you’re trying to snooze? I use mine to cover my head, as a pillow and if my feet feel like blocks of ice.
- Get on holiday and use it as a sarong, to cover your arms/head (visiting religious sites), as a beach wrap, something to bagsy your sun lounger with (don’t pretend you're not that person!) and for cooler evenings.
My current faves (left - right) Boden (in the sale) H&M (perfect goes with everything) and Zara (print lovers)
