5 Things Friday - What to Wear in December
5 realistic outfits to get us through December and I promise there's not a sequin in sight!
If you believe social media, you’ll not be leaving the house this month without being decked head to toe in sequins or sparkle, but in reality, my need for anything that dressed up is pretty limited. It is also COLD!!! I love it, but while we may all want to channel Cameron Diaz from The Holiday, it is easy to end up looking more like Michelin Man! With that in mind, I’ve given you five everyday looks that will likely fit into your social calendar this month, giving a hint of festive spirit without going full on glitter! You can access the full outfit by clicking on each heading.
We missed the Bath Christmas market last week thanks to Storm Darragh, but I’m hoping we’ll visit the York one, which is always good fun. Whether or not you have a market to browse, I’m sure you’ll need a warm stylish outfit this month. To avoid looking too bulky, but stay toasty and warm, I suggest light layers, that way you can always discard one or two if you start overheating! Uniqlo cashmere blend Heattech tops are an excellent base and, if you get chilly hands, then I’ve a few of the COS cotton tops. If it’s extra chilly, I also add a quilted liner under my coat, which was particularly useful when I used to do playground duty! The Uniqlo puffertech ones are light, warm and come rolled up in a little bag, so great for travel too.
You can achieve a Skandi look with this cool Cos jumper, Mango jacket, and M&S biker boots. Thermal leggings, cosy mittens, and sporty socks will keep you cosy.
After all the excess of Christmas Day a long walk is our Boxing Day activity. Every year, The Dean of Ripon leads a walk from the Cathedral through the deer park up to Fountains Abbey. It’s a beautiful walk through lovely countryside, however with four teenagers in the house, traditionally we never made the 9am start and usually met the walkers as we were setting out and they were returning!
You can’t beat a puffer coat for warmth. I like the jacket style of this navy M&S one; the shorter length is great if you find the full length ones too overwhelming. I’ve just discovered the Uniqlo straight leg jeans. I went for a 29” waist - the turn ups look great with an ankle boot. The navy Air&Grace fleece lined boots are my go to winter boot, (I have the tan ones) as they are practical, warm and stylish.
