White jeans can be a bit of a minefield and, let’s face it, jeans shopping in general is up there with visits to the dentist and Christmas with the in-laws… OK not that bad! In the last few years, I feel I’ve definitely nailed finding great jeans on the high street and, although I rarely wore them in my 30s, I’ve rekindled my love for them in my 50s. I have a few pairs of white jeans in my wardrobe and I’ve done my research as, for someone who is pear-shaped, it can be a tricky to find a pair that are both flattering and forgiving. This season I’m wearing straight leg and boyfriend style(size 14 R) from M&S and my recent purchase, a wide leg (size 14) from H&M. Skinnies are a no for me nowadays: aside from the fact that they make my legs look like a pair of Walls sausages, I think it’s a dated look. The quality of the denim is important as you don’t want any VPL or to see the outline of pockets. If you find white harsh, ecru or cream are definitely a good alternative.

So why Autumn/Winter?

A white jean will forever have a connotation with Liz Hurley for me, maybe because I’m old enough to remember the 80s, but that 80s white jean look is definitely something you want to take a giant step away from. All my memories are of Liz wearing skinny jeans in summer with high heels (step away from that look too!).

I don’t wear jeans that often in summer; it’s just too hot (oh the irony) and, given that we Brits have a two-week window called summertime to wear all our summer dresses and linen trousers, for me autumn/winter is the best time to be getting your white jeans out.

So if not Liz, then who gives a good white jean look?
